PATRICK Kasongo is one of two KwaZulu-Natal hunks who will be part of the Mr SA 2010 competition to take place in Ballito, Durban.

Kasongo, 23, who was born in Pietermaritzburg, has high hopes of being crowned the country's next cutest hunk.

He is a personal trainer, model and architectural student at the Durban University of Technology.

"For me, pageants are about boosting self-confidence more than anything else. I see nothing wrong with that," he said.

Kasongo and 12 other participants went through three selection stages that began in July.

Initially there were 200 men from across SA hoping to be part of the competition. The second stage saw 50 finalists being judged according to their looks, bodies andfundraising abilities.

Kasongo and his fellowparticipants were expected to raise funds for Ons Huis, a church organisation based in Pretoria.

Though not finalised yet, Kasongo managed to persuade companies to provide not only money but food for Ons Huis.

"In this way, the church will save a substantial amount of money as bread and milk will be provided for six months."

He is expected to do the province proud by ensuring the crown remains in KwaZulu-Natal. The current holder of the title, Stephen Segal, hails from KwaZulu-Natal.

"I never thought I would ever pursue a career in modelling, but now I'm in the Mr SA pageant."
