Ellis, who with Rodney Berman has staged many box-and-dine events to raise funds for the needy, will present a six-bout card at Emperors Palace on November 30 for another worthy cause.
This time Ellis, a former heavyweight professional fighter, wants to raise funds for his younger brother Ron, himself a former heavyweight fighter, and 19-year-old Kerry Roodt.
Roodt was disabled after being shot during a robbery a few years ago, while Ron, 52, is suffering from a rare disease that attacks his joints. Ron struggles to walk at times.
Ron won the Natal heavyweight title in August 1983, but was stopped in round five by Robbie Williams for the national belt three months later.
Ron hung up his gloves on July 4 1990 with a fight record of 16 wins (11 KOs), six losses and a draw.
Ellis and Golden Gloves' tournament features rising stars like the recently crowned IBO Africa lightweight champion Jason Bedeman, Grant Fourie, Joey Stiglingh, Kyle Smith, Ashley Dlamini and Flo Simba. They have also roped in veteran boxers Stephen Castle and Tyrone Churchill.
Bedeman tops the bill with an eight-rounder against Joe Modise.
The main supporting fight pits Fourie against Thulani Mbatha over six rounds. This will be Fourie's comeback fight after he was stopped in the 10th round by Bedeman for the WBO All Africa belt in September. But the heavyweight four-rounder between Castle and Churchill could steal the thunder from the main bout.
Ellis said 80 tables of 10 will sell at R3000. An auction of boxing memorabilia will take place, with the proceeds going to Ron and Roodt.
