LIMPOPO plans to intensify its tourism awareness campaign ahead of the World Cup, with the construction of the new Peter Mokaba Sports Complex now completed.
Limpopo Premier Cassel Mathale and Polokwane executive mayor Thabo Makunyane will speak at a function on site today to celebrate the achievement.
The construction company will hand the stadium over to the municipality.
Mathale is over the moon that Limpopo is on track with its World Cup preparations.
"More than 500000 tourists are expected in South Africa during the 2010 World Cup. We want to use the tourists who will be coming here during the tournament to serve as our ambassadors after the World Cup to spread the good news about tourism in our province."
Ndavhe Ramakuela, Polokwane's 2010 World Cup director, said: "The stadium reached practical completion on November 10, we are doing final touches on the items identified on the snag list after inspection.
"Practical completion means the city is now in charge of the facility. We intend to start using the stadium in January."
