IF ANYTHING can be gained from Ras Dumisani's rather comical rendition of the national anthem, it is that for a change there is some consensus over the controversial ditty.

Everyone seems to agree that Ras did a terrible job and should in future stay as far away as possible from such national treasures.

With hindsight being perfect sight, we can say that those who invited him to render the item ahead of the Boks-Le Bleus rugby match in Toulouse last Saturday should not have taken it for granted that his being South African meant that he knew the lyrics of the national song. A lot has to be done to make the average South African confidently recite all parts of the anthem.

Anyway, the Boks, perhaps still dazed by Ras Dumisani's rendition, lost but the pre-match entertainment will be remembered long after the defeat is forgotten.
