TEN members of Cosas appeared briefly in the Wynberg magistrate's court in connection with the disruption of matric exams in Cape Town last week.

The SABC said the 10 were granted bail of R300 each yesterday and the case was postponed until December 10.

They were charged with public violence and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm after exams were disrupted in Langa, Khayelitsha and Philippi in protest against the planned closure of the Lagunya finishing school.

On Friday, 176 pupils had to rewrite their physics paper after it was disrupted. The Western Cape education department obtained an interdict against Cosas on Friday night.

Education spokesperson Bronagh Casey said it restrained the students' organisation from gathering within 300m of any examination centre. - Sapa
