This was after the struggling Amabhubesi fired 2010 Fifa World Cup ambassador and former Bafana Bafana defender Mark Fish.
But Royals' managing director Anastasia Tsichlas said the parting was amicable.
Tsichlas said they were excited to have Troughton on board, labelling him is "one of the most knowledgeable coaches around".
Troughton and Fish could not be reached for comment last night.
