Safa Capricorn benches Rakoma

SAFA president Kirsten Nematandani's chief lobbyist in Limpopo was suspended by the federation's Capricorn region yesterday.

SAFA president Kirsten Nematandani's chief lobbyist in Limpopo was suspended by the federation's Capricorn region yesterday.

Abel Rakoma was suspended by the Watson Mabusa-led region for allegedly bringing the organisation into disrepute after he attended a Safa national conference in Johannesburg in July.

Mabusa confirmed yesterday that Rakoma was suspended from all Safa activities and its affiliates until he appears before a disciplinary committee.

"We have resolved to suspend Rakoma in case of Article 9.16 for bringing the organisation into disrepute after he attended the federation's national special council on July 11 without the blessing of the regional executive committee," he said yesterday.

"His activities will confuse players, administrators and soccer-loving people in the region. He has tarnished the region's image."

Rakoma said he only heard of his suspension from the media: "I have not yet received any letter of suspension. I don't want to give these rumours credence by commenting."

Safa Limpopo provincial representative Lucas Nhlapo said he was not in a position to comment because he had not received the report about Rakoma's suspension.

"We are aware that there are problems in the region that arose even before the national conference. They will be addressed soon," said Nhlapo, who is also the chairperson of Safa's dispute resolution committee.
