AUDITIONS to select powerful anti-crime theme plays by Free State youth groups take place today and tomorrow.
The drama auditions, starting at 10am, will be held at the MUCPP Hall in Phelindaba and at Mmabana Cultural Centre in Thaba Nchu.
Only groups with well-rehearsed pieces of not longer than 20 minutes will be considered by the selection panel.
The productions that qualify will be coached by professional writers and directors for three weeks.
They will then be featured at a festival at Mmabana in Thaba Nchu on December 4 and 5 - thanks to a culture grant from the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund.
A Nation-Building Foundation's youth development project, the festival is the brainchild of Dramatists Against Crime, led by artists Martin Koboekae and Julian Seleke Mokoto.
Now in its 13th year, the festival is an excellent anti-crime initiative that has also enjoyed financial and logistical backing from the Absa Foundation and North West department of sports, arts andculture.
Youngsters are invited to stage anti-crime plays that they direct, act in and provide lighting and stage management for.
The festivalgives them the space to express their views on the folly of crime through music, drama, dance, poetry and prose.
