Treu guns for Sri Lanka 7s

SOUTH Africa's opening training camp at Stellenbosch University yesterday to prepare for the Sri Lanka Sevens tournament from November 28 to 29 went well.

SOUTH Africa's opening training camp at Stellenbosch University yesterday to prepare for the Sri Lanka Sevens tournament from November 28 to 29 went well.

Sevens coach Paul Treu said the training camp would run until November 24 and the squad leaves for Sri Lanka the next day, November 25.

The South Africans are still on a high after successfully defending the Singapore Cricket Club Sevens tournament title for the third year in a row at the weekend. They routed Fiji 24-0 in the one-sided final and maintained their record of not conceding a single point throughout the two-day tournament.

"We are pleased with the performance of the team and hope to continue with our impressive form," Treu said. "The boys are now gunning to grab another trophy within a month by outclassing the resolute Sri Lanka next month."

A victory over Sri Lanka will energise the team ahead of the IRB World Series in Dubai next month. Treu said the match against Sri Lanka will be part of the final preparations for the upcoming World Series on December 4 and 5 in Dubai and in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, on December 11 and 12.
