ANOTHER IFP Youth Brigade leader who openly supported national chairperson Zanele Magwaza-Msibi for the party's presidency has been purged.
IFPYB chairperson Muzi Simelane yesterday became the latest casualty in the party's presidential dispute.
The latest move has prompted allegations that a "mob of male chauvinists" who serve in the party's national executive council are after Magwaza-Msibi.
Simelane was suspended after he was accused of allegedly instigating the youth to support Magwaza-Msibi. The IFPYB is divided over support for either party secretary Musa Zondi or Magwaza-Msibi for the presidency when Mangosuthu Buthelezi retires.
IFP provincial secretary Bonginkosi Buthelezi said Simelane was suspended with immediate effect after he was found guilty by a disciplinary committee for infringing the party's constitution. He said Simelane's membership was withdrawn and suspended for three years.
Simelane regards his suspension "as a joke".
"I know nothing about the new developments. I have not received any letter regarding my suspension. The truth is that the party leaders are trying to stop transformation and that is impossible. Transformation is not about me. It will continue. Despite claiming to have fired me, I will continue to work for the party," he said.
Simelane's suspension follows that of IFPYB leaders Irvin Barns, Skhumbuzo Khanyeza and Simphiwe Buthelezi.
They were the first casualties of calls for transformation within the party.
