THE dreams of 12 lucky young aspirant soccer stars to test their skills and impress international scouts in Brazil have come true.
This is thanks to Dettol Shona Khona, Reckitt Benckiser's far-reaching education through sport, soccer talent identification and nurturing programme. The programme is supported by nation-building partners including Bidvest Wits FC, Metro Cash & Carry, Sowetan and the Aggrey Klaaste Nation Building Foundation.
Chosen out of thousands, the 12 from across South Africa have secured themselves a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to undergo intensive soccer training at the esteemed São Paulo Futebol Academy of Brazil's famous São Paulo FC in in December. They are:
l Gauteng: Samkelo Qwabe frim Alexandra, Montgulio Thompson of Westbury, Brogan Sanders of Brackendowns, Matla Khoela from Thembisa, Owen Tsomele of Soshanguve;
l North West: Kopano Motaung and Kagiso Manong, who are both from Mafikeng;
l Limpopo: Justice Maluleke from Polokwane;
l Mpumalanga: Hlaulekile Moyane, from Bushbuckridge; Eastern Cape lads Mlibo Sotashe from East London and Dayne Jooste from Port Elizabeth; and
l KwaZulu-Natal: Sibulelo Zwane of Newcastle.
They were unveiled at the Bidvest Wits Academy in Johannesburg at the weekend.
The 12 triumphed over 50 other talented soccer hopefuls who had been chosen out of thousands of candidates who had taken part by sending in via SMS special barcodes from Reckitt Benckiser products including Dettol, and pupils whose schools had collectedDettol soap wrappers.
