Comrades pot of gold for athletes

COMRADES Marathon Association (CMA) chairperson Ave Dixon yesterday presented KwaZulu-Natal Athletics with a cheque for R250000 raised from this year's marathon.

COMRADES Marathon Association (CMA) chairperson Ave Dixon yesterday presented KwaZulu-Natal Athletics with a cheque for R250000 raised from this year's marathon.

KZN Athletics president Aleck Skhosana said the money will contribute to athletics development in the province, helping athletes "not only from the major centres such as Durban and Pietermaritzburg, but from rural areas as well".

"Our development structures are definitely working well and we have started to reap the benefits of the assistance we give.

"We have also started to compete and win medals at the Africa Cross Country Championships and at many local meetings,"Skhosana said.

Dixon said: "The CMA is delighted to be in a position to hand over a cheque for R250000 to KZNA in order to facilitate their development initiatives and we trust that the CMA will be able to sustain our fiscal contribution to KZNA."
