THREE women's rugby teams from Botswana, Zimbabwe and Namibia will take part in the inaugural Blue Bulls Women's Sevens rugby tournament scheduled for Grootvlei Sport Academy fields from November 20 to 22.

Tournament director Darryl Weir confirmed yesterday that the three teams will join eight other sides from South Africa to promote and popularise the women's game in the region.

Weir is confident that the Zambia team will be part of the tournament though they still have to confirm their participation this week.

The tournament is hosted by the Blue Bulls Rugby Union, in conjunction with Bizsport, under the management of former Springbok star Willem Strauss.

With sevens rugby almost certain to be included in the Olympics from 2016, this tournament provides women's teams from around the world an opportunity to play in a high-class competition.

Said Martin Moshaba, the Bulls coordinator: "The tournament is the first of its kind and one of the first to celebrate the inclusion of women's sevens rugby as an Olympic sport. This will be the start of a revolution in sevens rugby."
