RDP conman still walks free

THE conman exposed four months ago by Sowetan and e.tv of "selling" RDP houses still walks the streets a free man.

Housing department officials have confirmed that the man's real name is Bafana Madilongwe - and not Bafana "Ntuli".

Gauteng housing spokesperson Fred Mokoko said: "Bafana is a liar. We can confirm he has never been Ntuli and lied to all his victims and to his employer."

Madilongwe worked as a messenger for Arengo 6, a company contracted to help the Gauteng housing department roll out RDP houses.

"Information we got from his bosses is that he was fired a few days after being exposed as a con artist," Mokoko said.

Madilongwe would offer to supply an RDP house for R6000, promising to hand over the keys within weeks - but his scam came to an end in July when he was exposed by a whistleblower who contacted the Sowetan. However, the con artist is yet to appear in court, despite charges being laid.
