TRIUMPHANT athlete Caster Semenya is poised to be celebrated by top South African artists for her achievement in Berlin, Germany, where she won gold in the 800m track event.

Mzwakhe Mbuli, Ntando, HHP, Candy Mokoena, Penny Penny, Rebecca Malope, KB and Nothembi Mkhwebane are collaborating to release the Caster Semenya Celebration album.

"This album was assigned to the artists by the Caster Committee that was formed recently. The brief was to mobilise artists to come up with an album that celebrates Caster's achievements and to reverse the humiliation she suffered after her triumph on the track," said Mbuli, the album's producer.

The album, which will be released by EMI, must be completed by Friday and will be available to the public in two weeks.

"The private sector has also come on board with offers of counselling to Semenya and her family," Mbuli said.

"This is a celebration of human triumph. We are also celebrating other athletes who did well in Berlin - Khotso Mokoena and Mbulaeni Mulaudzi."

Mbuli said the album would be a mix of R&B, maskandi, Afro-soul and reggae.

The proceeds from the album sales would be donated to Semenya.
