Gaza gets beefy start to Muslim holiday

GAZA CITY - Israel is briefly easing its tight blockade of the Gaza Strip to ship in thousands of cattle ahead of a major Muslim holiday, Israeli and Palestinian officials said yesterday.

Israel military spokesperson Guy Inbar said about 3000 head of cattle began moving into Gaza last week in a goodwill gesture before the Eid al-Adha holiday .

Yesterday 330 head of cattle moved through a southern border crossing, Gaza border official Raed Fattouh said.

The Muslim holiday will be celebrated in late November. During Eid al-Adha - Arabic for "the festival of the sacrifice" - believers traditionally feast on lamb and beef. - Sapa-AP
