THREE young sisters at St Mary's School in Waverley, Johannesburg are proof that a healthy body houses a healthy mind, writes Victor Mecoamere.
The trio are acrobatics fanatics and inspirational performers. Their latest feats were showcased at the Acrobatics Festival of South Africa held in Johannesburg recently.
Bontle came second in the amateur solo dance category which featured 16 competitors aged between 13 and 16.
Bonolo pipped seven other competitors aged seven and under, and newcomer, Mokgadi, topped in the category for children agedfive years and under.
Bontle is 13 and is in Grade 7. When asked why she chose acrobatics, she said that she, along with her seven -year-old sister Bonolo and 5-year-old Mokgadi, chose the sport "because it boosts our confidence".
She said acrobatics also helped them to stay away from watching too much TV, as they now dedicate most of their spare time to school work and practicing their moves.
"Our mom, Lizzy and our dad, Kwena, encourage and support us by accompanying us to rehearsals and they come to the tournaments," she said.
