THE ministerial advisory committee on the proposed national health insurance has been named.

The committee consists of 25 members who are key players in the county's health system. Their job will be to advise on the development of policy, legislation and the implementation of the proposed national health insurance policy (NHI).

Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi announced members of the committee last week.

"It is in line with the National Health Act of 2004 and as stated in the Government Gazette of September 11.

"The ministerial advisory committee will advise the minister on aspects of the NHI policy, to enrich the process on policy and legislation development and the implementation plan for the NHI system," said Motsoaledi.

"The ministerial advisory committee will listen to the comments made by the public on the white paper on NHI and will advise the ministry on what to include in the final NHI implementation plan.

"The draft white paper on the NHI will be released for public comment in due course," he said.

The committee is made up of individuals with a cross section of skills and relevant expertise.

The members include Dr Olive Shisana, Professor Ephraim Mokgokong, Professor Diane McIntyre, Shirley Mabusela, Mark Claassen, Sheila Barsel, Mark Heywood, Professor William Pick, Solly Suleman, Mosidi Maboye, Kuben Pillay, Roly Buys, Norman Mabasa, Debbie Pearmain, Humphrey Zokufa, Charles Hongoro, Baby Twaya and Sobantu Ndlangalavu.
