JUST less than two months before the tenure of Limpopo's education department head comes to an end, his contract was prematurely terminated on Friday.
The department has already advertised the vacancy.
Zwoitwaho Calvin Nevhutalu's contract was supposed to expire on December 31. He joined the department on January 1 2007.
When Nevhutalu's career highs and lows ended last week, the former boss who is also a cleric, took a leaf from Charles Dickens' classic A Tale of Two Cities, set during the French Revolution, describing the "good and the bad" of his time at the department .
In a departmental circular, Nevhutalu said: "As you may be aware, my appointment as head of the department of education was based on a three-year contract commencing on January 1 2007 and ending on December 31 2009.
"The contract has not been renewed, and consequently I am currently serving the required notice period.
"You are hereby advised, however, that in line with a subsequent agreement reached between my employer, the premier and I, in line with the applicable guidelines of the Department of Public Service and Administration, my last day of reporting for work at the department of education is Friday, November 6 2009."
Nevhutalu took over the reins of the department from Harry Nengwekhulu nearly three years ago.
As he leaves the department, he said he found an institution that was "dysfunctional" and lifted it to "loftier heights".
Nevhutalu said: "It was the best of times of hard work in turning the department around, it was the worst of times when people vilified me."
Zwo, as he is popularly known, could not divulge his future plans.
