Crime blitz nets 700

GAUTENG police swept the streets clean with the arrest of about 700 people during crime prevention operations at the weekend.

West Rand police arrested 236 people in Carletonville, Fochville, Khutsong, Wedela and Westonaria. The operation was conducted by the Carletonville police.

Another 178 people were arrested in Ekurhuleni, while 145 were arrested in Mamelodi, Pretoria.

Soweto police arrested 130 people and recovered four stolen vehicles - a BMW, Mazda 3, Toyota Yaris and a bakkie.

The vehicles are reported to have been stolen in Pretoria, Vereeniging, Westonaria and Ormonde.
