Bleak future for student

A DURBAN University of Technology student might have his plans derailed after his attempts to get an ID from Home Affairs in KwaZulu-Natal failed.

A DURBAN University of Technology student might have his plans derailed after his attempts to get an ID from Home Affairs in KwaZulu-Natal failed.

Phumlani Dube, pictured, is a first-year marine engineering student, a course that requires him to undergo in-service training, but his dream of going to the UK next year for in-service training may not be fulfilled.

"I am stuck. I first applied for my ID in October last year while doing matric," Dube said.

"I was with my mom when I was told to reapply because for some reason my ID number is similar to that of another person who already owns one."

Department of Home Affairs spokesperson Ronnie Mamoepa has promised to probe Dube's case.
