THREE North West police officers were allegedly aware that their colleague was raping a woman in the cells but did nothing to rescue her.

The four officers were arrested on Friday - 38 days after the incident.

The Independent Complaints Directorate is investigating a case of rape and defeating the ends of justice.

An identification parade is expected to be held this week.

The woman had been detained at Rustenburg police station on September 29 when she was allegedly raped.

North West public safety MEC Howard Yawa has described the incident as "despicable".

Even worse, when the woman was finally released the next day, she went to Tlhabane police station to lay a charge but was turned away.
