STATE witness Dianne Muller took on former police head Jackie Selebi in court yesterday, telling him his denials of payments and gifts were an outright lie.

STATE witness Dianne Muller took on former police head Jackie Selebi in court yesterday, telling him his denials of payments and gifts were an outright lie.

"That is not the truth," Muller said angrily, turning in the witness stand to stare directly at Selebi in the dock as she spoke.

Muller - the ex-fiancée of Selebi's self-proclaimed former friend Glenn Agliotti, pictured below - was responding to a statement by defence lawyer Jaap Cilliers in the Johannesburg high court.

Cilliers told the court that Selebi - who is on trial on a corruption charge - denied ever receiving any payments from Agliotti.

Cilliers said Selebi had denied that his wife, Ann, had ever received a handbag which Agliotti had purchased on a trip with Muller to the UK.

"We bought the handbag in the UK. He told me it was for Ann," Muller said, this time turning to look at Selebi's wife sitting one bench above him.

On Wednesday, Muller had testified about a weekend when she was at the Sandton City shopping centre with Agliotti, Selebi, his wife and two children.

"We met outside Fubu [a clothing shop]. Mr Agliotti took the two boys and bought them shirts, jeans and shoes and whatever they wanted," she told the court.

Yesterday Cilliers said Selebi denied that a shopping trip to buy his children clothing at Fubu had ever happened.

"That is a lie," she replied, turning to look at Selebi.

Muller also said Agliotti's lifestyle became modest after his association with slain mining magnate Brett Kebble and associate John Stratton came to an end.

Agliotti previously testified that he had asked Kebble and Stratton for a $1million "consultancy fee" for access to Selebi.

Muller's father and the financial director of her company, Martin Flint, will take the stand today.

Flint allegedly dealt with an account for the company Spring Lights, from which alleged payments from the Kebbles were distributed to Agliotti.

Prosecutor Gerrie Nel said the state would then present a KPMG audit on Selebi's lifestyle as well as the Spring Lights account.

Cilliers also questioned Muller on a statement her father made in which he had "no suspicion" of any payments being made to Selebi.

Cilliers read out an extract of one of Flint's statements: "I never thought such a high-ranking person would compromise himself...

"If Agliotti had said he was paying Selebi I would certainly have remembered."- Sapa
