HIGHER Education and Training Minister Blade Nzimande has moved to take charge of the ailing R21billion skills development and training sector.

HIGHER Education and Training Minister Blade Nzimande has moved to take charge of the ailing R21billion skills development and training sector.

The 23 Sector Education and Training Authorities (Setas) have now been transferred from the Department of Labour to his ministry.

The Setas are sitting on R16billion in unspent funds, while the National Skills Fund only has R5billion in its coffers.

Nzimande announced yesterday the appointment of his director-general Mary Metcalfe as chairperson of the National Skills Authority . - Anna Majavu
