A Mpumalanga man is taking Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga to court to force her to release his 2008 matric results.

After writing matric exams last year, Madimetja Johannes Langa of Kutuspoort near Marapyane in KwaMhlanga, is still waiting for his results.

Langa told Sowetan yesterday that after numerous enquiries at regional and provincial levels, he received no joy and had no choice but to take the minister to court.

"I am stuck. I can't get my matric certificate or pursue tertiary studies," said Langa, who attended Setenjisiwe High School in Kutuspoort.

According to Tshukudu Manyabeane, director of public examinations, Langa did not get his results because "his marks did not add up on our system".

Manyabeane said the matter had been referred to the national Education Department and they were still awaiting a response.

In court papers addressed to Motshekga, Langa's lawyers, Maubane Attorneys, demand that his matric certificate and results be issued to him within 30 days.

Langa said he had applied to tertiary institutions to study climatology but has been rejected because he does not have a matric certificate.

"Had it not been for my supportive family I could have committed suicide. But my family and friends have encouraged me to be patient because my results will come out soon," Langa said.
