ORLANDO Pirates threw away two valuable points at home when they drew 1-1 with Maritzburg United in an Absa Premiership match in front of a poor crowd at Orlando Stadium last night.

The result would have disappointed the Ghost who must be starting to doubt the Buccaneers' title credentials.

Pirates enjoyed massive ball possession but they failed dismally to translate their dominance into goals.

They only managed to score one goal which was scored by skipper Lucky Lekgwathi a minute before the break.

The home side continued to dominate the proceedings after the restart but also gradually allowed the Team of Choice to threaten their rearguard and goalie Moeneeb Josephs. The likes of Fadlu Davids, Mor Diouf and Felix Obada increasingly featured in United attacks.

Diouf scored the equaliser in the 53rd minute. The goal inspired Gordon Igesund side but they could not get more goals.

Pirates started the match with Teko Modise on the bench, apparently because he looked tired in their recent matches.

Modise, Siphelele Mthembu and Dikgang Mabalane were brought on in the second half but they failed to help Bucs to score.

They replaced Katlego Mashego, Phenyo Mongalo and Dennis Masina.

l Santos and Bidvest Wits shared the spoils when they drew 0-all at Coetzenburg.
