Arrows draw yet again

IT IS unclear if fatigue is taking its toll of Lamontville Golden Arrows or if expectations from soccer fans are beyond Abafana Bes'thende's capabilities.

IT IS unclear if fatigue is taking its toll of Lamontville Golden Arrows or if expectations from soccer fans are beyond Abafana Bes'thende's capabilities.

Arrows won the MTN8 Cup with a 6-0 drubbing of Ajax Cape Town a few weeks ago. Since that achievement, their first major title, the expectation was that they would win every match, no matter the opposition.

But four days after beating Ajax, Arrows lost 2-0 to Kaizer Chiefs at Orlando Stadium, and drew 0-0 with Ajax last weekend.

Yesterday they drew 1-1 with Bloemfontein Celtic in a home game at Chatsworth Stadium in Durban - their 10th draw of the season.

Arrows took the lead in the 11th minute. Thamsanqa Gabuza headed home past Patrick Tignyemb from a well taken free-kick by Nqobizitha Mkhize. But the celebrations lasted only eight minutes as Celtic equalised through Prince Olomu's low shot in the 20th minute.

Arrows fought back, playing the type of football enjoyed by the masses, but this failed to bear fruit.

Celtic started the second half on the offensive and nearly scored in the 48th minute. This time Olomu fumbled a through-ball from Excellent Walaza.

Arrows had a great chance to take the lead but Musa Bilankulu's header in the 58th minute went wide.

Siyanda Zwane ballooned another chance in the 90th minute.
