THE SA Democratic Students Organisation has joined the fray over the decision by Free State University rector Jonathan Jansen to withdraw disciplinary charges against the so-called Reitz 4.
The IFP-aligned Sadesmo said it was concerned about Jansen's "reconciliation gesture".
Sadesmo spokesperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa said: "The situation at UFS is of concern to Sadesmo because it further highlights a South Africa that remains divided."
Hlengwa said while Jansen's pronouncements have some merit, Sadesmo believed that he should have consulted with all the relevant parties first.
"Sadesmo views this as an opportunity for revival of the reconciliation debate in the hope of reconciliation and unity in diversity.
"It is evident that many South Africans still centre their thinking and behaviour around race and apartheid," he said.
He said Sadesmo will communicate its views to Jansen in due course.
