NOW it's Siza Makhathini who is demanding money from boxing promoter Rodney Berman, after Thulani "Sugarboy" Malinga demanded more than R500000 for previous bouts.

Makhathini, the former Transvaal heavyweight champion, said Berman owed him R96000 from the IBF cruiserweight title fight on October 2 1989 in the UK.

Makhathini lost that fight via an 11th- round stoppage.

"During our discussions with Berman he promised to pay me R150000, but he gave me only R54000 and said the rest would come from his American associate Cedric Kushner because he (Berman) was just a co-promoter of that fight," Makhathini said yesterday.

"Berman organised another fight, the IBF Intercontinental title fight, which I won against Dave Garside, also in the UK on May 22 1990.

"Again Berman paid me far less than the R80000 we agreed on. I trusted him because I was told that he is a lawyer."

Attempts to get comment from Berman drew a blank yesterday.
