'VIP officer beat robot'

PRESIDENT Jacob Zuma's visit to Mpumalanga was felt at least two days before he arrived in Nelspruit after a member of the VIP protection unit allegedly nearly killed another motorist in an accident on Saturday afternoon.

The VIP officer, whose identity is known to Sowetan, allegedly beat a red robot while driving an official vehicle and hit a vehicle driven by Swazi national Sandrino Du-Pont. The impact caused DuPont's vehicle's air bags to inflate.

"This guy failed to stop and hit my car. It seems his vehicle belongs to the police since it had blue lights that were off at the time. I believe he should have had his siren on to warn other motorists if he had reason to speed the way he did," added DuPont.
