NAIROBI - Kenyan officials say two people were killed and 15 others wounded in Nairobi's largest slum in violence fueled by ethnic tensions.

Local council member Mohammad Gore says the violence began when a dozen youths from the Nubian ethnic group demolished trading stalls in the Kibera slum.

Afterwards Lughya tribesmen retaliated by pulling down the fence of a church.

Gore says traders later hacked to death a Nubian man. In retaliation, Nubian youths s attacked people indiscriminately, killing one.

Shacks in the slum were set on fire and police said Saturday's violence could flare into a larger conflict in the area. - Sapa-AP
