This trendsetting vehicle for sustainable development in ECD is driven by SABC Education, the education and departments of social development , South African Congress for Early Childhood Development, United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund, Sowetan, Aggrey Klaaste Nation Building Foundation and Absa Foundation.
There is R50000, R30000 and R15000, respectively, for the first, second and third home-based and community-based early childhood development (ECD) centres and registered ECD training and development centres.
There is also R30000, R20000 and R10000, respectively, to the first, second and third ECD practitioners and R20000 for an individual, group or organisation showing innovation in ECD that is worth emulating and R10000 to a publication that is taking ECD forward.
Money is not an all-important factor in the awards because this is essentially a campaign aimed at developing a thriving early childhood development culture and system, by encouraging, ensuring and enhancing the professional development of practitioners and the infrastructural development, improvement and support of centres and registered training and development organisations.
We seek to promote and recognise the excellence, hard work, dedication and investment in the future of our children by dedicated, talented and innovative people.
We are also on this fine nation-building journey to contribute to the child's development and to signify an appreciation of their health, nutrition, education and psychological factors within the family and community context.
All nominees are introduced to a massive network tool or engine - the South African Congress for ECD - the representative national, non-governmental early childhood development organisation that represents the interests of more than seven million children aged from birth to nine years, ECD workers and the ECD sector in general.
