An elated Bulls captain Victor Mafield heaped praises on his charges for winning the coveted trophy.
"The guys put a lot of effort into the game on the day. It was a superb victory for the team and the supporters as well who have been rallying behind us for the whole season," said Matfield.
Frans Ludeke became the first coach in the history of the game in South Africa to win both the Vodacom Super 14 and Absa Currie Cup titles in the same year.
On the other hand, it was sweet revenge for the Bulls who lost the 1995 final at home to the Cheetahs.
The Bulls were aided by slick passing and a number of game breakers. They went on the rampage from the onset and as early as the fourth minute Francois Hougaard scored the first try .
Speedster Bryan Habana played his last game for the Bulls and capped a marvellous performance with a brace of tries while flyhalf Morne Steyn, who rarely misses, took the score to 21-0 with two conversions and a penalty.
But the Cheetahs showed their fighting spirit and aggression and managed to close the gap to 27-14 at the break.
In the second period Steyn kicked three penalties for the Bulls and the Cheetahs responded with Nico Breed's try, Jaques-Louis Potgieter's drop goal and a conversion to make the score 36-24.
