SA MUNICIPAL Workers Union in Ekurhuleni wants to force the council to reinstate overtime work for emergency workers.

The union allege that since council banned overtime work last week, the 27 emergency centres in the region have had fewer than five workers per shift.

The emergency centres serve more than two million residents.

The region's Samwu general secretary Koena Ramotlou said yesterday they would force the metro to reinstate overtime for the sake of the community.

The emergency unit consists of the ambulance services and fire fighters.

Council spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said overtime was suspended for a week because of financial constraints. - Kingdom Mabuza
