As things stand, Tjoka is equal on three victories with Angelina Sephooa of Lesotho, South Africans Sarah Mahlangu and Joshua Petersen.
Sephooa, who also won three 56km Two Oceans Marathon titles in Cape Town, died in Maseru four years ago.
Tjoka returned to Johannesburg yesterday from Lesotho where she prepared for the township race, which carries a whopping R100000 first prize for senior men and women.
"The preparations went according to plans, it was great as usual being in Lesotho to prepare for the Soweto Marathon, which is one of the best for me on the continent," Tjoka said.
South Africa's hopes in the women's section will be on Charne Bosman, who finished third last year. Others include Mpho Mabuza and Evert van Blerk.
Zimbabwe's duo of Thabita Tsatsa and Samkelo Moyo are also capable of causing upsets. Turning to the men's section, Moeketsi Mosuhli of Lesotho is out to make it two in a row.
Teboho Sello and Thabo Ntlaloe, the Lesotho runners who finished second and third respectively, are also back.
Sunday's marathon will be shown live on SABC2 from 5.30am. There will also be a 10km road race, walk and one for wheelchair-bound athletes.
l Later on Sunday all eyes will be on South Africa's Hendrick Ramaala as he fights to reclaim the New York Marathon title he won in 2004.
