TSHWANE city manager Kiba Kekana did not report for duty yesterday.

He also did not attend the special council meeting which, among other things, was strongly speculated would have placed him on special leave.

Mayor Gwen Ramokgopa told the council that Kekana "is on sick leave".

Last night, the Tshwane council decided to place Kekana on precautionary suspension pending an investigation.

Sowetan reported yesterday that there were moves orchestrated by the ANC in the region to force Ramokgopa to place Kekana on leave.

Ramokgopa had firmly refused to suspend Kekana until she was furnished with evidence of wrongdoing.

But insiders allege that she was shown evidence during the regional lekgotla held earlier this week, and she was instructed to launch an investigation into mismanagement and maladministration.
