Soweto versus Durban

IT IS Soweto versus Durban in the Absa Premiership tonight.

Kaizer Chiefs host team of the moment Lamontville Golden Arrows at Orlando Stadium while Orlando Pirates are away to AmaZulu at Chatsworth Stadium.

The games are scheduled for 7.30pm.

The Soweto giants have been going through a topsy-turvy spell and any slip now could affect their title aspirations.

Chiefs were beaten 2-1 by Moroka Swallows last week and there is no guarantee that they can halt the dazzling Arrows tonight.

On a high after winning the MTN Cup by a record 6-0, no opponent can be comfortable against Arrows.

In fact Richard Henyekane is bound to score more goals as soon as he learns to be more composed in the box.

Nhlanhla Zothwane, Njabulo Manqana and Siyabonga Sangweni are showing a maturity that has been growing at the team for a couple of years now.

Arrows are simply dangerous and Chiefs will have to pull out all the stops to block them.

It's not as if Amakhosi cannot do it. Captain Jimmy Tau summed up their determination when he said the six goals Arrows scored against Ajax Cape Town last weekend made them aware that Arrows were a quality side.

But the tendency to bench Knowledge Musona, the 19-year-old roving Zambian, is costing Chiefs dearly. Musona has shown he is the answer to their goal-scoring problems.

As for Pirates, the 3-0 drubbing by SuperSport United last week confirmed long-standing suspicions about their defence.

With Neil Tovey as coach, Amazulu are more and more determined to show that they are a top eight side.

Pirates keeper Moeneeb Josephs is sure to be under tremendous pressure.

And why Pirates persist with Teko Modise, when it is clear he needs a rest, is a mystery.

If they do not bring in Josephy Kamwendo and Andile Jali tonight at Chatsworth, AmaZulu could add to their woes.

Meanwhile, a victory for Mamelodi Sundowns, who visit Platinum Stars at Royal Bafokeng, will catapult them into the top four.

Maritzburg United host Mpumalanga Black Aces in another league fixture at Woodburn Stadium.
