The match was delayed for half an hour due to transport problems, but it looked as if the West Indies team had missed the bus altogether as they laboured to a disappointing total of 114. Only Cordel Jack (41 off 44 balls, with five fours) batted with any authority. The running between the wickets was poor, and South Africa were impressive with their tight bowling and keen fielding.
Almost all of Sunette Loubser's bowling changes bore fruit. Charlize van der Westhuizen was the pick of the bowlers, taking one for 10 in her four overs. The innings was completed despite a brief interruption for rain. Needing to bat at less than a run a ball, openers Shandre Fritz and Trish Chetty kept the scoreboard rattling along at better than the required rate. The Windies looked lacklustre, and it seemed to be an inevitability when Fritz lofted a catch to Deandra Dottin in the covers and the ball slipped through her hands.
But Dottin held it at the second attempt to send Fritz packing for 42. Chetty followed her back to the dressing room in the next over and the rest of the batting line-up tumbled. From 73 without loss South Africa were bowled out for 101.
Instrumental in the process was off-spinner Anisa Mohammed. She ripped through the batting to finish with figures of 4-0-5-10.
The final match of the series will be played at Paarl today at 2pm, but the West Indies hold an unassailable 2-0 lead. - Sapa
