POLICE at the Oshoek border gate to Swaziland have arrested a man they caught with fake R100 notes worth R1million in big plastic bags.
The man emerged from a direction where there is no gate to leave or enter South Africa.
He was spotted by a policeman at about noon yesterday.
"The police constable, who became suspicious after seeing the suspect carrying some big plastic bags, asked a colleague to help him follow the man," said Mpumalanga police spokesperson Captain Leonard Hlathi, pictured.
"They searched him and found 10 bundles, each containing R100000 in R100 fake notes."
Hlathi said the parcels bore the words DHL Express and had Johannesburg addresses on them.
The man said his boss from the DRC had sent him to collect the parcels from a certain man in Swaziland.
"He claimed he did not have an idea what he was carrying because he was working for his boss who had not told him what was in the parcels," Hlathi said.
"He was charged under the South African Reserve Bank Act 90 of 1989 and will appear in court soon," he said.
