AUSTRALIA-based Lovemore Ndou jetted into South Africa last week and headed straight for Musina to pay his last respects to his uncle, who died last month.

Ndou, born in that part of South Africa 38 years ago, is in the country to finalise preparations for the defence of his IBO welterweight title.

The "Black Panther", who is based in Sydney, New South Wales, will defend against Matthew Hatton at Fenton Manor Sports Complex in Stoke, England, on November 13.

Ndou won the belt on July 11 after outclassing Philip "Time Bomb" Ndou (no relation) over 12 rounds at Emperors Palace in Ekurhuleni. That was Lovemore's first fight here since going into exile in 1995.

This former IBF junior welterweight titlist will use the Hammer Gym of former SA welterweight king and now successful trainer Harold Volbrecht near Rand Stadium in Johannesburg.

In fact, Lovemore turned professional under Volbrecht in 1993.

Together they chalked up 10 wins, two losses and a draw before Ndou left for Australia in 1995.
