LONDON - LIVERPOOL lifted the gloom hanging over their season with a 2-0 victory over Premier League champion Manchester United yesterday.

Fernando Torres struck after 65 minutes and David Ngog added a second goal in stoppage time to give Liverpool a deserved three points after they had lost their previous four matches in all competitions.

United, who ended with 10 men after Nemanja Vidic was red-carded, could have few complaints.

Liverpool's Javier Mascherano was also dismissed in stoppage time.

Chelsea is top the table with 24 points from 10 games, with United on 22. Tottenham Hotspur have 19 points while Liverpool are on 18.

Liverpool's city rivals Everton were beaten 3-2 at Bolton Wanderers.

Ivan Klasnic's first Trotters' goal, with four minutes left, gave Bolton their first home league win this season as they saw off Lancashire rivals Everton at the Reebok Stadium.

Bolton looked on course for a comfortable win as goals from Lee Chung-Yong and Gary Cahill put them 2-0 ahead.

But Everton hit back with a superb shot from Louis Saha and the visitors then saw Marouane Fellaini equalise in the second-half before Klasnic ensured Gary Megson's side would take all three points.
