Eagles may still spread their wings

DESPITE putting up a terrific fight, SWD Eagles came short in the first of two Currie Cup promotion/relegation matches in Potchefstroom against Leopards on Saturday night.

Losing 47-42, Eagles still have a chance at promotion to the Currie Cup Premier Division.

Eagles go to George knowing a win will see them promoted and Leopards moving down.

Meanwhile Boland Cavaliers desperately hung on to narrowly win the first of two promotion/relegation matches 36-35 against Pumas at Wellington.

The Pumas did well to come so close in an away match and could benefit from their two bonus points on Friday in the second leg at Witbank.

Both sides scored five tries and the Pumas also got a points for being within seven points of the winners' score. Boland will now have to lift their game considerably if they want to retain their Currie Cup status. They need a win without conceding a bonus point in Witbank. - Sapa
