Matric examinations for 585 474 full-time pupils began on Monday at 7215 centres nationally.
National Education spokesperson Granville Whittle said though a teacher and two pupils had been arrested for being in possession of matric examination papers in Mpumalanga, examinations would nevertheless go on as planned.
Whittle said despite the Mpumalanga debacle, there would be no postponements. He also wished all matriculants good luck.
Mafu Rakometsi, Umalusi's chief executive officer, said: "It is important for you to reach your full potential by achieving good results in your National Senior Certificate examination. It will give you plenty of options to pursue your career aspirations."
Umalusi ensures that South African matric certificates are recognised nationally and internationally.
Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga, was unavailable for comment. More than four million papers will be written and marked in total between Monday and December 3.
