Sporting bodies honoured

SOUTH Africa's unsung heroes in sustainable development in sports were honoured at a Jack Cheetham Memorial Award gala in Fourways, Johannesburg, on Tuesday night.

SOUTH Africa's unsung heroes in sustainable development in sports were honoured at a Jack Cheetham Memorial Award gala in Fourways, Johannesburg, on Tuesday night.

The South African Tug-of-War Adopt-a-School project was awarded R500000 over five years.

The runner-up, Alexandra Trampoline Club, got R150000 over three years.

In the disabled sports category, Judo for the Blind and Visually Impaired also received R500000 over five years.

The second-placed contender, Bears Wheelchair Basketball, won R150000 over three years.

The awards are funded by the Letsema Sizwe Broad-Based Community Trust, formed by Murray and Roberts in 2005.

The awards - supported by Sascoc, Sowetan and the Aggrey Klaaste Nation Building Foundation - honour former M&R director and national cricket captainJack Cheetham.
