Mooi River Farm breezing impresses

THE seven men who met at Summerhill Stud to view last Friday's "breezing" at Mooi River Farm were somewhat divided in their individual choices of colts and fillies.

All were suitably impressed, however, and agreed that the 2009 Ready To Run Draft had enough depth at the high end and enough value at the lower end of the pedigree scale to make the November 8 sale, sponsored by Emperors Palace, a day for all prospective buyers to remember. There are a few lot numbers to jot down.

Mike de Kock, Mike Azzie, Jehan Malherbe and Joey Ramsden selected Lot 43, by Machiavellian's son Hobb Al Wahtan from Mediterranean, as their best colt at the breezing.

Azzie, Graeme Hawkins and Michael Roberts selected Lot 89, an imported daughter of Street Cry, as their pick among the fillies.

Kahal's daughter Zefnah (Lot 30) appeared prominently in the notebooks of De Kock, Sean Tarry and Hawkins.

While Summerhill's tried and tested stalwart Kahal once again impressed with the quality of his two-year-olds, freshman sire Cataloochee will have plenty of support on the big day if the looks of his offspring are anything to go by.

Also impressive were eight lots consigned by Highlands Farm through Ambleway. Tyler's Talent (Windrush, Lot 114) and Cheery Berry Bim (Spectrum Lot 105), were particularly good movers.

At Turffontein on Sunday, a further 28 lots were put through their paces in front of a good crowd.

The Klawervlei consignment stepped out impressively, with their flashy imported colt by Falbrav (Lot 156) raising energy from watchers on the grandstand. Captain Al's son from the mare Portfolio (Lot 65), from the family of Trademark, had good presence, while whispers on the stand held that the National Emblem colt out of Military Mission (Lot 45) was something special. Maine Chance's Vengeance, a son of Black Sam Bellamy, strode out beautifully. He will come up midway through the sale in Lot 106.
