Limpopo softball in cash crisis

THE Limpopo Softball Association (LSA) will have to face the 2009-10 season without a sponsorship should they fail to convince LimDev to renew their contract after their three-year relationship lapsed last season.

Should they fail to reach an agreement, the LSA will be the second federation to be kicked out by the Limpopo parastatal after LimDev declined to sponsor the Limpopo Eagles Golf Association's eighth edition of the Peter Mokaba Memorial Golf Challenge.

LimDev had been the tournament's platinum sponsors for the past five years. LSA was sponsored by Hansa Pilsener for a decade before LimDev injected R1million on a three-year contract that lapsed last season.

Benny Boshomane, LSA's general secretary, said they were working around the clock to secure a sponsor.

"The absence of sponsorship will mean that clubs will play without the annual R5000 grants, something that will be tough for the clubs," he said. "There is no way we can allow the sport to go without sponsorship. We will secure one soon."

Former LSA spokesperson Pat "Fingers" Moyaha said the lack of sponsorship would inevitably affect development of the province's popular amateur sport.
