ajax rely on cup pedigree

AJAX Cape Town believe that their Cup pedigree will see them win the MTN8 final, while Lamontville Golden Arrows feel their hunger will see them through.

AJAX Cape Town believe that their Cup pedigree will see them win the MTN8 final, while Lamontville Golden Arrows feel their hunger will see them through.

The two coastal teams will face off for the trophy and R8 million first prize at Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Saturday night.

Ajax's road to the final was not an easy one and they will go into the match as favourites after seeing off Soweto giants Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs in the quarterfinals and semifinals.

Spokesperson Thabiso Mekuto said their Cup pedigree will give them the edge on Saturday.

"We know who we are up against and we'll give (Arrows) all the respect they deserve because they are a very good side who on their day can beat anyone.

"But we are in celebratory mood and our fans have been waiting for a long time. There are still other Cups to play for, but we'd rather win this one now and contest the others later," Mekuto said.

He added that captain Brett Evans is back in training with the team after being out with a pulled stomach muscle. But Diyo Sibisi will miss the final as he is suspended

Arrows, on the other hand, know that this is a golden chance to bag their first piece of silverware in the elite league and they will give everything they have to lay their hands on the trophy.

Star striker Richard Henyekane says a team effort will see them lift the trophy on Saturday night.

"Everything is going well and we are all looking forward to the final on Saturday," Henyekane said.

"We are not feeling any pressure and although there is a lot at stake, we are going to treat the game just like any other.

"Unlike Ajax, it will be the first time most of us play in a cup final and I think we are hungrier to win the cup than they are.

"I have not been scoring as much as I would have liked, but I'm getting encouragement from my teammates and soon I will start scoring."

The striker predicted that Arrows will emerge 2-0 victors and that he'll score the two goals.
