Soccer lovers believe local is lekker

WHILE Safa is looking for a coach to replace Joel Santana, soccer lovers have also voiced their preferences for the hot seat.

Phillip Siziba said: "I'm happy that he has left. I couldn't see what he was doing. Safa must bring back Carlos Parreira because he is an experienced international coach. But I would love to see him working with a local coach who will take over after 2010."

Mncedisi Tom said: "They should not have fired Santana because there is no time left (before the World Cup). The new coach will tell us that he is still building.

"When you compare Parreira and Santana's records, you can see there is not much difference. The problem in South Africa is that we have so many coaches off the field."

Thembi Malinga said: "Clive Barker can take the team to greater heights. He is a good coach and is friendly with players."

Ayanda Mtshali said: "They must give a local coach a chance. Gordon Igesund has a proven track record. He is the only coach to win four league titles - and two of them with minor teams. That shows how good he is. He might not have international experience, but if given the chance he could do well."

Kgethang Moiloanyane said: "Igesund is the man if we need someone who understands our football. Parreira should not even be considered because he wants to coach the team when it suits him. Bafana is not a gravy train."

Mot said: "We need someone who can motivate our boys. I don't have anyone in particular in mind but I think someone like Clive Barker can lift their spirit."
