Schultz is back on the block

MICHAEL Schultz is back in the boxing ring by popular demand.

MICHAEL Schultz is back in the boxing ring by popular demand.

Schultz made a resounding comeback last month when he defeated Oupa Mahlangu in two rounds. A deafening noise erupted from the 3000 fans who crammed into the Wembley Arena in Johannesburg's south. Schultz had been in retirement for 11 years.

His promoter, Branco Milenkovic, promised Schultz's followers that their idol would be back in action on October 30.

Milenkovic announced yesterday that Schultz would take on Samuel Mathebula over six rounds in the super middleweight division at the venue where he blasted Mahlangu away in two.

This fight will be the main supporting bout to the fight for the IBF's vacant junior lightweight number two spot between Cassius Baloyi and Argentinian Robert Arrieta.

Baloyi, who has been world champion six times, is rated fifth. Arrieta is eight spots below him. The title is held by Robert Guerrero, who must defend against Mzonke "Rose of Khayelitsha" Fana early next year.

The winner will defend against the victor of the Baloyi-Arrieta fight.

Mathebula recently conceded a close points decision to Mthokozisi Malinga . Milenkovic said he would pit Malinga against Schultz but Malinga has a fight in East London next week.

"Mathebula is a capable fighter who will give Schultz a run for his money," Milenkovic said.

Schultz is undefeated after 15 fights with eight stoppages.
