Umlilo on high road

BAY United coach David Bright feels fulfilled after his charges finished the first round unbeaten and top of the table in the National First Division's Coastal Stream.

Umlilo have collected 17 points from a possible 21 in the first round of the three-round league.

"We started at a low pace despite winning most of our matches through lean margins. The boys gained momentum with time, hence we finished the first round on a high note and hope to keep up the pace in the coming two rounds to ensure that we make a quick return to the elite league," Bright said yesterday.

United were held to a 1-all draw by Mark Fish's Thanda Royal Zulu, Vasco da Gama moved to second on the log when they beat struggling FC Cape Town 2-1, while Carara Kicks beat Nathi Lions 3-1.

Ikapa Sporting secured their first victory of the season when they pipped Hanover Park 1-0.

In the Inland Stream African Warriors finished top of the log despite their 2-1 defeat by Dynamos, while Black Leopards lost 1-0 to United FC. University of Pretoria beat Winnerspark 4-2 and fourth-placed Witbank Spurs played to a 1-all draw with Batau.
